A WINEGROWER’S HERITAGE
Our family's winemaking roots date back to 1796, with Louis Margaine, the first winemaker in the lineage. It was his grandson, Gaston, who took the first steps in the art of winemaking. Today, seven generations have succeeded one another to perpetuate our winemaking tradition on the Villers-Marmery terroir.
From Father to Daughter
Today, our family remains at the heart of the estate. Father, mother and daughter manage the estate with passion and dedication. Our commitment is reflected in every aspect of our work, from viticulture to winemaking. Together, we perpetuate family traditions while innovating to meet modern challenges. Thanks to our shared vision, the estate thrives and continues to pass on its legacy from generation to generation.
Passion and Know-How
From its minerality to its aromas, the wine tells the story of the soil and subsoil from which the vine draws its strength.
We are the guardians of this precious knowledge, responsible for passing it on from generation to generation, from bottle to bottle.
The writings of our ancestors serve as our guide. They have left us precise methods of planting, pruning, and annual care of each vine on each terroir. These ancestral practices are our heritage, and it is through them that we continue to produce wines that tell the story of their origin with authenticity and respect.
A Unique Village
Located in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, Villers-Marmery is an island of Chardonnay in the middle of a sea of Pinot Noir. Thanks to its southern, south-eastern exposure and its almost exclusively white grape varieties, we find there unique Blanc de Blancs from the Montagne de Reims. With its meter of topsoil before the chalk, the terroir produces powerful wines with citrus notes and a saline freshness.
Terroir Champagnes
From the vine to the wine, our approach is plot-by-plot, aiming to reveal all the typicalities of our terroir. Each year in the vineyard is different, and we always strive to respect nature and its biodiversity while fighting against climatic hazards.
We produce typical terroir wines, always looking for balance. Thanks to carefully controlled maturity, malolactic fermentations often blocked to preserve freshness, and a precise plot-by-plot approach, we manage to create unique wines. Our aging, in quarters of mousse or in wood, brings a characteristic roundness to our products. Our champagnes, fruits of patience, require years in the cellar to reach their full expression and sublimate themselves.
